It would seem that Gladys Knight's son has posted bond and is free now while an investigation into his business activities is ongoing. Now what I'm learning is that what he's really guilty of is a civil tax matter. I did wonder why the state government was doing an 'investigation' into this matter. Something white businessmen do all the time; it's wrong but they don't face criminal charges unless they really fucked up! Yes the evil spectre of racism raises it's ugly head yet again! As long as the white establishment is in charge (and thankfully that won't be much longer) they're gonna' do shit like this! NOw I'm not letting shanga (damn what a stupid name) off the hook! look boy do you see what you're doin' to your mama and your family?!!? What kind of selfish piece o'shit are you! Your mama went out on a limb for your sorry ass trying to help you out and this is how you repay her?
Gladys, for your own good hire somebody else to run this business and fire this irresponsible boy or withdraw your name from further use on this business! You worked long and hard to build up your public personae, don't let this selfish boy destroy it!
Soul legend Gladys Knight’s son spent several hours in a Georgia jail after authorities fingered his popular chicken and waffles chain in a $1 million probe.
Shanga Hankerson, 39, was booked into Clayton County Jail in Jonesboro, Ga., just before 4 a.m. Wednesday on two counts of theft by taking, jail records show. He was released more than ten hours later on $22,400 bond, a Georgia Department of Revenue official told the Daily News.
Hankerson is accused of stealing more than $650,000 in sales and withholding state taxes, with the grand total amounting to more than $1 million after interest and penalties.
Authorities on Tuesday had unsuccessfully tried to serve arrest warrants at Hankerson’s home. The same day, revenue department agents seized documents, computers and bank records in a raid at his three Gladys Knight’s Chicken & Waffles restaurants and their corporate headquarters.

The restaurateur was on vacation in Florida Tuesday, but turned himself
in at the Georgia jail early Wednesday, revenue department spokesman
William Gaston told The News.
He stressed that the investigation centered on “theft and not fraud.”
“This was money that he collected and was supposed to remit to the state and he did not,” Gaston said. “He reported all the sales tax that he was collecting (and) he converted it to personal use.”
Hankerson's attorney, Steve Sadow, said in a statement that his client
was "not guilty of the theft charges leveled against him."

"It appears to Mr. Sadow that this is a civil tax matter masquerading as a criminal case," he added.
Officials have not accused Knight, best known for her 1973 hit “Midnight Train to Georgia,” of any wrongdoing.
“Gladys Knight lent her name to her son's restaurants in the Atlanta
area, similar to a celebrity endorsement,” a rep for the singer said in a
statement. “Ms. Knight was not involved in any way with the operation
of the restaurants and she is sure that her son and his business
partners will rectify the situation.
“As always, her main concern is for her family’s well-being and she is making sure the family has the guidance they need to assess the situation and move forward.”

Authorities opened the criminal investigation on Hankerson in April after he had defaulted on more than two dozen payment plans dating back to 2012, Gaston said.
The chicken and waffles joints are expected to reopen as early as Thursday, he added.
