Supergirl Season 2

5 Things to Know for ‘Supergirl’ Season 2

The Girl of Steel is set to make her debut on the CW and we’re brimming with excitement to see what villains and vixens Kara will be fighting this season. While season one brought much pain and trepidation, it also brought Kara closer to her sister Alex, her mentors Hank/J’onn and Cat Grant, her best friend Winn, and her new love, Jimmy.
While the finale ended with the “super family” toasting to a successful triumph over Non and Indigo — unfortunately, the party was cut short by a falling spacecraft. The mysterious person contained within the craft will be an interesting addition to this season, as he is connected to Kara in a way she is not expecting.
Looking ahead to season two, Supergirl will begin to more closely resemble the world of Superman, as both the Man of Steel himself and a member of the Luthor family are set to guest star. Kara is also getting a new boss this season, Winn will try his “toymaking” skills at the D.E.O. and the quest for Jeremiah Danvers will continue. Here’s what you need to know for Supergirl Season 2 on The CW, which premieres Monday, October 10 at 8/7c.

Superman Is Happening

After an entire season of wondering if we would ever see the face of the Man of Steel, he will make his debut in Season 2. Supergirl made the awesome decision to not just let Clark cameo but make a guest appearance on the first two episodes of the season. Superman will be played by Teen Wolf’s Tyler Hoechlin and boy does he look the part! In the premiere episode, which is called “The Adventures of Supergirl,” Clark and Kara will be called upon by the government to stop a global threat. The battle will take place in Metropolis and National City, which will firmly root this show in the world of Superman. The addition of Supes to the show couldn’t come at a better time, as fans have been looking for a happier, lighter-tones alternative to the “Batman v. Superman” version of Clark, who is quite the brooding Kryptonian. Based on the promotional images and season two trailers, Clark and Kara seem like a super match made in heaven. And for anyone who might take this news as a sign that Superman will overshadow the girl of steel, have no fear, he is just making a guest appearance. The introduction of Superman and Metropolis also opens the door for more characters to make their way onto Supergirl, like our next point of interest, Lena Luthor.

Lena Luthor’s Running Luthor Corp.

Lena Luthor is heading to Supergirl this season. You may recognize her last name, Luthor, as she is the sister of famed Superman villain Lex Luthor. Merlin’s Katie McGrath will play Lena, will have recently taken over Lex Corp after her bother’s imprisonment. Lena will not be Supergirl’s Lex Luthor and will instead be a friend of Kara’s — another strong woman with whom Kara can confide. Lena will be introduced in the first two episode of this season, and as a way to define herself apart from her brother will rename Lex Corp to LCorp. It’s too early to tell is Lena and Kara will become adversaries at some point, but for now they will be friends.

Following along the addition the strong female character of Lena Luthor is the casting of Supergirl’s female president, Olivia Marsdin. While this role could be played by a variety of talented actresses, the powers that be at Supergirl have cast Wonder Woman herself, Lynda Carter. Carter portrayed the Diana Prince/Wonder Woman from 1975 to 1979. This is not the first time that Supergirl has featured actors who have previously played DC Comics superheroes. Both of the Danvers parents, Eliza and Jeremiah, are former DC superheroes. Eliza Danvers is played Helen Slater, who played Supergirl in the 1984 Supergirl film. Jeremiah Danvers is played by Dean Cain, who played Superman in “The Adventures of Lois and Clark.” Casting Lynda Carter is perfect because it continues the trend of positive female role models for Supergirl and keeps it in the DC family.

Miss Martian Will Surprise J’onn Jonnz

J’onn Jonnz is going to be in for quite a surprise when he meets another survivor from Mars, Miss Martian, in Supergirl Season 2. Grimm’s Sharon Leal will be portraying M’gann M’orzz, a White Martian survivor from Mars. In the comics, Miss Martian was an anti-hero who eventually joined the Teen Titans. If you remember in Supergirl season one, J’onn told Kara and Alex that the White Martians killed all of his people, the Green Martians. If Supergirl follows M’gann’s story from the comics, she will likely present herself to J’onn has a Green Martian and then later reveal herself to be White. Throughout this season they will find common ground with one another, as they bond over being the last survivors of Mars.

Another Kryptonian, Mon-El, Arrives

Another Kryptonian is coming to Supergirl Season 2. As if Superman wasn’t enough, Supergirl season two will also feature a character called Mon-El. In the comics, Mon-El has served as a stand-in for both Superman and Superboy. Mon-El will be played by The Vampire Diaries actor Chris Wood. When he arrives on the show, he will be another puzzle for Kara to solve, asking her if this alien is someone she can trust, or someone with an agenda, like her Aunt and Non. In the comics, Mon-El was born on Daxam, a planet of Krypton descendants, who exhibit similar powers to Kryptonians, although they are immune to Kryptonium. In one comic storyline, Mon-El suffered from amnesia, it’s possible it will take the character a few episodes to start remembering who he is and where he’s from.
Supergirl Season 2 premieres Monday, October 10 at 8/7c on The CW.
